Ceylon gained Independence in Feb-1948 after some 150-years of British colonial rule. In 1972, the Soulbury Constitution was replaced by a Republican one, with the island’s name changing to Sri Lanka. 

 

The 25,000-sq. mile island, famous for its tantalizing tea and its splendid beaches, is located at the southern tip of India, and is called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. 

 

Its capital city Colombo is located on the west coast, while its administrative capital lies a few kilometers inland  at Sri Jayawardenepura, where  Parliament is located. 

 

History of STC

 

1970             -        Sri Lanka State Trading (General)

                             Corporation was established.

1971             -        STC commences its trading activities

1992             -        (Converted in to a public limited liabilities company under the

Conversion of Public Corporations and Government owned business undertaking in to Public Companies.)

Lanka General Trading Company Limited was established.

2002             -        The Company’s Name was changed to

STC General Trading Company Limited.

Trading Operations:

For over three decades STC has continued to transact business in importing and distributing a wide range of consumer products.

Supplies relating to Agricultural Implements, Electrical & Electronic Supplies, Household Goods & Miscellaneous Items, Laboratory Equipment & Chemicals, Machinery & Self-Reliance Projects, Office Equipment & Stationery, and Recreational Items & Sports Goods are distributed islandwide through STC’s showrooms, Sales Promotion staff, and its General and Franchise dealers.

STC serves as a price-stabilizer in the market for specific products, and has to a great extent achieved its raison d’etre: Service to the Consumer; Service to the Nation. 

Besides servicing internationally renowned branded products, which include Lenovo^®  Olympia^TM ,OK ^TM, Aftron^® ,STC^® .

STC imports and markets lesser known brands from countries which include the UK, USA, France, Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Mexico. 

 

STC operates a Duty-Free Shop catering exclusively to the Diplomatic Corps and UN-personnel serving in Sri Lanka.  Contact us
